Seodaemun Prison History Museum (서대문형무소역사관)
Introduction
Seodaemun Prison History Hall is a special museum located at Seodaemun Independence Park. It was built near the end of the Joseon Dynasty (~1910), and was where Japanese soldiers tortured and later executed Korean Independence Movement followers. Seodaemun Prison History Hall was built in remembrance of Seodaemun Prison, and to salute the Korean patriots. There you'll find seven jail cells, a historical exhibition hall, an execution room, watchtowers and a basement jail cell where Yu Gwan-sun an historic figure during the independence movement died. The 1st floor is “A Place of Reverence,” where you can learn about Seodaemun Prison through a video. A large screen shows the background of its founding and the transition periods in its history. The Reference Room has displays and information on Korea's history. The museum also holds special exhibits. The 2nd floor is “A Place of History,” where you can view the “National Resistance Room,” “Prison History Room” and the “In Prison Life Room.” This floor shows examples of how the people fought through this dark chapter in history continuing to hold on to their hopes and resolve for freedom. “A Place of Experience” is the most horrifying and dreadful place in the prison. In the “Temporary Detention Room” and “Torture Room” you will see recreated torture scenes that are frighteningly realistic. At the Seodamun Independence Park nearby you can visit the Independence Hall, the Patriotic Martyr Monument, the March 1st Declaration of Independence Monument, relic no. 32 and no. 33.

Baggage Conveyor Belts installed in Seoul Station
Visitors to Seoul will be happy to hear that KORAIL has recently installed automated conveyor belts in the train and subway (Lines 1-4) transit pathway within Seoul Station. This is known to be the first baggage conveyor belts installed for train transfer passengers. With the installation of these belts, visitors can now easily move their luggage at the stairway.
Numerous travelers transferring from KTX, Airport Railroad, and Seoul subway through Seoul Station had no other option but to step up or down from the stairway while hand carrying their heavy luggage. To save visitors from this trouble, a total of four conveyor belts were installed in September, two on each side of the stairway moving in opposite directions. The conveyor belts were designed to be user-friendly in hopes of offering convenience to travelers transferring through Seoul Station.

Ihwa Mural Village in central Jongno-gu, is a hilltop village with stunning views of Seoul located beside Naksan Park, not far from the bustling Daehagno neighborhood. In 2006 the local Public Art Committee invited artists to paint murals or create sculptures in the village as a way to improve life here. As a result the village has become a charming, colorful part of the city with museums, restaurants and cafes catering to visitors.
It would be great to go for a walk to Ihwa Mural Village as the weather has cooled down.
Directions:
Hyehwa Station, Line 4, Exit 2. Walk towards Naksan Park.

Opened in May 2016 in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Y.M.C. Seoul is the third store in the world following Y.M.C. UK and Y.M.C. London. The brand Y.M.C. was unveiled in 1995 with a uniquely new sportswear design combining workwear, soccer fan fashion, military look, and traditional costumes. Y.M.C. is short for “You Must Create,” and it pursues the brand philosophy of one creating his or her own style instead of following fashion. Products mainly consist of functional design items such as clothing, bags, and shoes for men and women. In keeping with the brand slogan, Y.M.C. is more about unique design products than trend-sensitive items. The store space spans two floors: the first floor with the main entrance and exit and a showroom, and the base room. The showroom on the first floor displays new products representing the Y.M.C. brand. This is where customers can find all products by Y.M.C. The basement, which is decorated with a small indoor garden as well as artworks on the wall, occasionally functions as a cultural space for special events for customers.

Popular Traditional Markets Outside of Seoul
Probably only at the Korean marketplace, you will find most older generations manning their stands, ajummas (middle-aged Korean women) hunting for bargains, and groups of young ladies giggling and having fun. A trip to one of the city's busy marketplaces is an ideal place to soak up the genuine spirit of Seoul as an industrialized country with a lot of heart.
Jeju Dongmun Traditional Market
Busan Gukje Market -> For that reason, the place makes up an interesting mixes of customers making an attractive filming spot for many K-movies, K-dramas, often featuring as a backdrop of popular TV shows as well like ‘1 Night 2 Days’. Items sold here includes industrial products such as machinery, electronics, kitchen appliances, as well as clothing, food, agricultural products, fish, and dairy goods. Food in particular, it is famous for bibim-dangmyeon (Spicy Glass Noodles), yubu-jeongol (fried tofu stew), and ssiat-hotteok (sweet Korean pancake stuffed with seeds).
Bupyeong (Kkangtong) -> Jagalchi Market, Yongdusan Park and Bosu-dong Book Street are also located nearby, giving plenty of opportunity for visitors to explore the neighborhood.
Chuncheon Romantic Market -> traditional market in Chuncheon that sells hanbok, bags, shoes, clothes, electronic appliances, jewerly, and food.
Jeonju Nambu Traditional Market
Gyeongju Jungang Market
Incheon Sinpo International Market
Suwon Paldalmun Market
Daegu Seomun Market -> The market is sectioned into 6 major districts, housing roughly four thousands vendors and stores in total. There's no better place to get a taste of real Korean life than the market. The biggest and most popular markets in Seoul are Namdaemun Market and Gwangjang Market, which not only sell Korean comfort foods, but also bustle with vendors of all kinds. When looking for place to either shop or eat, a visit to one of these Korean marketplaces is a must!

Marts & General Stores
Korean Supermarkets and Convenience Stores
Before visiting Korea, it can be helpful to know a bit about Korean supermarkets or convenience stores. You can not only purchase all your daily needs and basic products here, but can also purchase popular souvenir food items like Korean laver and snacks.
Top 3 Supermarkets in Korea
The three largest supermarket brands in Korea are Lotte Mart, E-mart and Home Plus, each offering an easy and convenient shopping experience. All of these large-scale retail businesses house a diverse range of general items and luxury goods, where customers can find almost everything they need. The number of these stores has exceeded 400, springing up in nearly every part of Korea.
Because of the large number of supermarkets, the stores have different operating schedules depending on their location. For example, most of the stores in Seoul are closed on the second and fourth Sunday of the month, whereas markets in other regions are often closed on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. However, as this is not a fixed rule and is subject to change, visitors are recommended to double check the stores’ closed days in advance to avoid any inconveniences.
Shopping at these supermarkets will save a significant amount of time and money, as discounts and many promotional events are happening almost every day. Most of these supermarkets offer a basic level of foreign language service, so it is not very difficult for first-time visitors to explore these places as well. Experience the local shopping culture while browsing for the freshest food ingredients, fashion items, electronic goods and gifts for your friends and family today!
