EXO thank fans for Guinness World Record for most Daesangs won at Mnet Asian Music Awards
The pop group got the record for most daesangs (prestigious awards) won at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, an Asian awards ceremony. They share their award with other K-pop group BIGBANG, who have also earned five awards as a group.
EXO won Artist of the Year in 2014, and Album of the Year every year from 2013 to 2016. BIGBANG won Song of the Year in 2007 and 2015, as well as Artist of the Year in 2008, 2012, and 2015. The awards, organised through music channel Mnet, celebrate K-pop, Asian music and celebrity culture more widely.
A daesang is the word used for the most prestigious awards, which are treated as milestones in a musician’s career. ‘I want to say thank you to our fans,’ member Baekhyun gushed. ‘While we were preparing for our concert, we had very few outside activities, and yet our fans waited patiently and showed us love. I want to thank them for that’.
The band spoke at a press conference before their gig EXO PLANET #4 – The EℓyXiOn, at Gocheok Sky Dome in South Korea.
